In a census in the Netherlands families are represented in many different ways.
Often you'll see the following:
Name of the husband
First name of the wife
Sometimes parents
Names of the children. If you are lucky also an indication of the age.
I always assume that people were at least 18 years old when they got their first
child and that a woman can have children until her 45th year.
I am aware of exceptions.
If I don't have an indication of age, I would store a family as follows:
Husband, born before 1730, died after 1748
Wife, born before 1730, died after 1748
Child, born before 1748, died after 1748
Child, born before 1748, died after 1748
....
Often there were also inhabitants, workers, servants or just inhabitants.
For a worker or servant I assume that he or she is at least 8 yeas old. If it is
just an inhabitant I don't have an indication. This person recorded as:
born before 1748, died after 1748.
